We rejoice with Sister Celie Creigh on being awarded the OAM in this Australian Day Honours. We are delighted that Celie’s quiet work over so many years has been recognised and that the need of hearing impaired people is given prominence as a result.
The daily frustrations of those who find it difficult to hear ordinary conversation and hence join in social activities is well understood by Celie who suffered significant hearing loss at an early age.
Working with SSUSH has really energised our Sister Celie and it always seemed to bring a spring to her step and a smile to her eyes when she successfully arranged to have good hearing devices fitted for people who had been isolated by deafness.
It was with pride and joy that we celebrated Celie’s honour in the Community on Australia Day and presented her with flowers to brighten her day as she has brightened the day for so many others.
Hearty congratulations to you, dear Celie.
