Lochinvar Sisters' General Chapter

Beginning with days at the Therry Centre, East Maitland, (for the full assembly) and continuing at Monte Pio Conference Centre (for elected Chapter members), the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Lochinvar held their 13th General Chapter between 13th and 24th October, 2008. Their excellent facilitators were Central Josephite Sisters, Monica Cavanagh and Christina Neunzerling.

The group was energised by discovering a common waterhole shared with all who live and minister in the spirit of Saint Joseph; they gathered, remembered, thirsted, drank together and dreamed of the possible. Looking forward to how the poor will be cared for in their increasingly complex and changing needs, they decided

  • to focus on social justice and the stewardship of creation
  • to explore new understandings of their charism
  • and to adapt leadership structures for the new way forward.

After setting these goals for the years 2009 - 2013, the Chapter Members discerned in an atmosphere of reflection and prayer the sisters who are called to lead the group to make these goals a reality.

The new Leadership Team is:

Lauretta Baker Congregational Leader
  Ellen Royan
Michele Connolly
Ellen Shanahan
Marie Hughes

In the refreshment of these days their spirits sang the song of Israel:

“Spring up, O Well….Sing to it.”( Num.21.1)

Later in a moving ceremony in the Chapel at Lochinvar they gave thanks for the giftedness and generosity of those elected and raised their voices in songs of  thanks to God who is for ever faithful and abundantly provident.
